Custom Instrument
Note: This feature is not available to all versions of Analytics
To create Custom Instruments go to Custom Instruments in the Active List and click on New. This will take you to the Custom Instrument Setup screen.
- Reference Code - This needs to be a unique 3 digit reference code for your instrument.
- Universe - This is a required field if you would like to compare your instrument with a sector average.
- Sector - This is a required field if you would like to compare your instrument with a sector average.
- Price Type - Select the desired price type. You can maintain a number of different price types for any given custom unit (e.g. a price series, a total return series etc), but each of these you will need to be updated as separate series i.e. updating one series will not implicitly update the others.
- Currency - Required so that Analytics can offer currency conversions from the active list
The price data can be pasted into the Price Data box. You will need to select the date format, data separator type and price series from the price settings section.
When the data input is complete, simply save via the File menu and give your instrument a name in order to complete the custom instrument creation.
When accessing data on custom instruments in charts, tables and custom reports, you will need to ensure that the correct price type setting is chosen. E.g. if your custom unit is a gross return, you will not be able to view it on a total return basis.
