Portfolio Reports
There are a number of reports that can be created for your portfolio directly from the Portfolio Builder as well as from other parts of Analytics. These include:
- Short Scan.
- Medium Scan.
- Long Scan.
- Holdings Summary Factsheets – Single page summary factsheet of funds held within your portfolio.
- Historical Holdings Summary – an exportable summary table of historic entries made into your portfolio (only available with the historic portfolio module).
- Portfolio Comparison – explained in more detail below.
You can create any of these reports by going to the 'Report' menu option in the Portfolio Builder.
Portfolio Comparison
The portfolio comparison tool allows you to select a portfolio from your list of saved portfolios and create a quick comparison report against another of your portfolios. You can compare performance, ratios and portfolio breakdowns with the ability to customise your report.
You can access the Portfolio Comparison reports from two places:
Portfolio Builder - Select Compare Portfolio from the Reports menu in the Portfolio Builder and a pop-up with your current open portfolio will appear. Select another portfolio and also a benchmark from the Benchmark drop down to compare against. The drop down will include any instruments in your active list so that you can benchmark both portfolios against the same instrument. The default benchmark option is to benchmark each portfolio against its own benchmark.
Reports Tab – To create a report firstly select your portfolios using the two drop downs under the Portfolio Comparison option in the Report tab. Then select a benchmark option from the Benchmark drop down. Again the default option will be to benchmark each portfolio against its own benchmark. The drop down will include any instruments in your active list so that you can benchmark both portfolios against the same instrument.
Comparison Report
The portfolios will be displayed side by side for ease of comparison and the default report will contain a number of different sections:
- Freeform Text – each portfolio allows free form text for any further information.
- Portfolio Holdings – as a default this table will show the top 5 holdings by % weighting along with other items. Full holdings can be displayed if available by clicking “All Holdings”.
- Cumulative Performance Chart – the default chart is over 5 years but this can be changed as required.
- Cumulative Performance Table - this table displays 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 year cumulative performance for each portfolio and the benchmark to the latest price.
- Discrete Calendar Year Performance Table - this table displays performance for the last 5 discrete calendar years where available for the portfolios and benchmarks.
- Rolling Volatility Chart – displays rolling volatility over 1 year (as default) but can be changed to 3 years.
- Ratio Table – displays selected portfolio ratios against the benchmark.
- Asset, Region and Sector Allocations – tables display latest asset, region and sector allocations.
Report Settings
The comparison report is flexible, allowing you to include or exclude parts of the report as well as changing the performance end.
To customise the report layout go to settings in the File menu. The performance end point is defaulted to latest price but this can be changed to last month end using the drop down.
By ticking and unticking sections in the settings allows you to determine what appears in the report. Unticking the Benchmark Performance option will hide the benchmark from the performance and ratio tables.
Once all settings have been set you can update the current report to display the new settings or set the new settings as your default.
Note - that the benchmark will still be used for necessary ratio calculation.
Custom Portfolio Report Builder
The Custom Portfolio Report Builder enables you to create flexible report templates that output high quality, client friendly portfolio reports. You can choose from a wide variety of different report types including performance, risk and asset allocation reports and include fund documentation like factsheets or KII documents and output these as a single PDF document. You can then re-use your template for other clients or create specific template for different types of clients, e.g. prospects or high net-worth clients.
To access the report builder go to the Reports tab on the right hand-side of the Active List and select Custom Portfolio Report Builder.
Report Builder - The report builder has the same layout as the Custom Table Report Builder with the available reports displayed on the left hand-side and the selected template displayed on the right hand-side.
The report types are split into the following sections:
- Performance Reports
- Portfolio Breakdown Reports
- Portfolio Documentation
To see a sample of each report click on the report name and to add it to your report template click on the plus button next to the report name.
Report Template - Any reports added to your template will be displayed on the right hand-side of the report builder. This is the order the reports will be displayed in the PDF. To remove any reports from your template simply click the red delete icon. To change the order of the reports click and hold the mouse button on the report name and drag to the desired location.
Running Your Report Template - Once the chosen report template is saved via the File menu in your toolbar, it will appear in the Report Template drop down on the Active List. Select your template and choose the portfolio to run the report for in the second drop down or choose Current Active List for any selected portfolios in your Active List.
Note - you will only be able to run your report template on one portfolio at a time.
When completed, a single PDF will open including a cover page with your company logo (if uploaded) and a glossary of key terms. The individual reports include client-friendly descriptions of the content and a bookmark so you can quickly find individual reports if, for example, you've bound the reports together.
Adding Client & Advisor Name - The portfolio display name will always appear on the cover page and in the report titles (to change the name go to Options - Portfolio Settings in Portfolio Builder).
If the portfolio is associated with a client, the client name will also appear on the cover page and in the report footer. Also within the client setup there is a field called Advisor Name which enables you to personalise the report by entering your name to appear on the report cover page and report footer.
